AHRPA and the Steering Committee Charter
The Alnwick-Haldimand Ratepayers Association (AHRPA) is an informal community advocacy organization led by a Steering Committee. AHRPA welcomes people who wish to join in but does not have a formal membership.
Individuals who share AHRPA’s objectives may participate as supporters or volunteers by signing AHRPA’s Code of Conduct. AHRPA welcomes new volunteers and ideas from across the community and encourages supporters and volunteers to actively participate in its activities, provide input on issues, and assist with projects and initiatives.
Why a Steering Committee
Because AHRPA is a grassroots organization without formal membership, the Steering Committee provides a practical way to ensure that decisions get made and work gets done. The Committee is not a formal board of directors — it is simply a group of committed volunteers who have stepped up to help guide the organization.
Responsibility for governance and organizational decisions rests with the Steering Committee, which may invite individuals to join from time to time, taking into account their demonstrated commitment to AHRPA’s objectives, their contributions to the organization, and the skills and experience they could bring to the Committee.
As AHRPA grows, it is the intention of the Steering Committee to move toward a more formal process for determining Steering Committee composition and governance.
